Prescription Information
Contact Lens Prescription vs. Glasses Prescription
When it comes to vision correction, knowing the difference between a contact lens prescription and glasses prescription is key! Trust us, using the correct prescription makes all the difference for comfort and clarity. Here’s a breakdown:
💡 Contact Lens Prescriptions
Contact lenses sit directly on your eye, so their prescription needs extra details for a perfect fit:
- Base Curve (BC): The lens curvature, matching your eye’s shape.
EyeMuse Tip: Our lenses have a range of BC between 8.6mm to 8.9mm. It's specified on each product page - Diameter (DIA): The lens width to properly cover your cornea. It has nothing to do with the "lens enlargement effect".
EyeMuse Tip: Our lenses DIA are between 14.0mm to 14.8mm! - Graphic Diameter: The printed design on the lens that determines how large the pattern appears on your iris.
EyeMuse Tip: The average Asian iris diameter is around 11.5mm to 12mm. A graphic diameter of 12.5mm or more typically creates a subtle to noticeable enlargement effect. - Lens Material & Brand: Each material affects comfort and fit, making this important to note!
- Power: Specifies the corrective strength of the contact lenses, similar to the SPH value in eyeglass prescriptions. This might differ slightly from your glasses prescription since contacts sit right on your eyes.
EyeMuse Note: Our lenses are designed to correct shortsightedness (myopia) only. If your glasses prescription is -4.00 or lower, your contact lens power will often remain the same. For higher prescriptions, adjustments might be needed to ensure accurate vision correction.
🕶️ Optical Frame Prescriptions
Designed for eyeglasses, this prescription works differently and includes:
- Sphere (SPH): Indicates the power needed to correct your vision.
Shortsightedness (Myopia) is represented by a minus (-) sign, meaning you have trouble seeing objects at a distance.s.
Farsightedness (Hyperopia) is represented by a plus (+) sign, meaning you have difficulty seeing objects up close. - Cylinder (CYL) & Axis: Corrects astigmatism and its orientation.
- Addition (ADD): For reading glasses or multifocals.
- Pupillary Distance (PD): Ensures your lenses align with your pupils.
🚫 Why You Shouldn’t Use Your Glasses Prescription for Contacts
- Fit & Comfort: Contacts need precise size and curvature measurements. The wrong fit? Hello, discomfort and irritation! 😣
- Vision Accuracy: The power for contacts and glasses isn’t the same! Contacts are closer to your eyes, meaning a different correction is needed.
- Eye Health: Contacts need to allow proper oxygen flow to avoid dryness and infections.
So, before ordering your contacts, make sure you have a valid contact lens prescription for that perfect, comfortable fit! 💫 If you’re unsure, don’t hesitate to consult an optometrist — we want your eyes to be happy and healthy! 💛
Base Curve (BC) and Diameter (DIA) in Contact Lens Prescriptions
When you receive a contact lens prescription, two crucial parameters you will encounter are the Base Curve (BC) and the Diameter (DIA). These measurements are essential for ensuring that the contact lenses fit your eyes correctly, providing both comfort and optimal vision.
📝 Note: EyeMuse lenses have a wide range of BC between 8.6mm to 8.9mm and DIA between 14.0mm to 14.8mm.Please consult your optical professional before purchasing to choose BC and DIA that are suitable for you.
Base Curve (BC)
- Definition: The Base Curve (BC) refers to the curvature of the back surface of the contact lens, designed to match the curvature of your cornea (the clear front part of your eye).
- Typical Values:
The BC is measured in millimeters (mm) and typically ranges from 8.0mm to 10.0mm. Most common BC values are around 8.6mm to 8.8mm.
Diameter (DIA)
- Definition: The Diameter (DIA) measures the overall width of the contact lens from edge to edge, ensuring the lens covers your cornea properly.
- Typical Values:
The DIA usually ranges from 13.0mm to 15.0mm. Most common diameters fall between 14.0mm and 14.5mm.
EyeMuse Note:
Lens diameter has nothing to do with the lens enlargement effect. To know if the lenses have noticeable enlargement, you should look at Graphic Diameter. The printed design on the lens that determines how large the pattern appears on your iris.
Tip: Asian irises typically range between 11.0mm to 12.0mm. A graphic diameter of 12.5mm or more typically creates a subtle to noticeable enlargement effect.
